Luis Arocha Sr

Luis Arocha Sr entered into eternal rest on February 8, 2025 at the age of 81 surrounded by his wife and family. Born in Havana, Cuba on August 23, 1943, he came to New Orleans at the age of 7 years old with his father. Mr. Arocha lived in Marrero, LA.

Luis is the beloved husband of 37 years to Wanda Toups Arocha by second marriage and the mother of their son, Shawn R Arocha (Patti-Rae). He is also survived by his children Luis Arocha Jr (Roxanne), Ronald Arocha (Faye), Rhonda Rigdon (Ray), and their mother Barbara Arocha.

He is the son of the late Segundo Arocha and the late Silvia Viera. Loving Grandfather of Stella Arocha, Brittany Parr (Darren), Paige Arocha, Devin Arocha, Kyle Arocha (Emily), Hallie Rigdon, and Logan Rigdon, and Great Grandfather of 8. Preceded in death by grandsons Brent Arocha and Evan L Arocha. He was the loving brother of Andrea Shepherd(Billy), Joe Arocha, Rosa Garibay, the late Pete Arocha (late Barbara), and the late Maria Flores. Loving brother-in-law of Mike Toups (Yvonne), and Billy Shepherd (Andrea), and the late Roy A Toups Jr. Son-in-law of the late Roy A Toups, Sr and Elva C Toups. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends, and his faithful furbaby Ozzy, his buddy, whom he shared most of his snacks with!

Luis was a waiter at Antoine's Restaurant for 20 years and later entered the field of finance and opened Landmark Mortgage Corporation which he operated for over 25 years before retiring. He also served as a "consultant" for his son's restaurant Dos Gringos Food & Spirits during his retirement.

Luis grew up in New Orleans and attended St Louis Cathedral School, Redemptorist High School, and Francis T Nichols High School. He coached Little League baseball at PARD playground in Marrero and at Terrytown playground. He was lovingly known as "Coach Lou" to his fellow coaches and every kid he coached still to this day, and won a few championships in his baseball coaching career. Coaching was his passion. Luis also enjoyed going to Jazzfest and was an avid and huge LSU football/baseball fan and Saints fan, never missing a game.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment to immediately follow at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1255 Whitney Ave, Gretna, LA.
