Lyle Lawrence Panepinto

July 17, 1954 — April 2, 2025

Gretna, LA

Lyle Lawrence Panepinto, a beloved figure in the world of aviation and a devoted family man, tragically passed away on April 2, 2025. Born on July 17, 1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Lyle dedicated his life to aviation, serving as the President of Southern Seaplane Inc. He was recognized as one of the most respected seaplane pilots globally and was a mentor to countless aspiring aviators, sharing his knowledge and passion for flight with others.

Lyle's contributions to aviation extended far beyond his role at Southern Seaplane. He was proud to have served as the Louisiana Field Director for the Seaplane Pilots Association, during which he also held a position on its board of directors. Additionally, Lyle was a Designated Pilot Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration and one of the very few Multi-Engine Seaplane Examiners in the country.

Outside of his professional achievements, Lyle was an avid golfer, even qualifying and playing in the U.S. Amateur. He was a longtime member of Timberlane Country Club where he also held a position on the board of Directors. He found joy in fishing, NASCAR, and spending time at his happy place, the family lake house where he enjoyed sailing on his cherished Sunfish sailboat. Most importantly, he relished spending time with his grandchildren, Emma Charvet and Emile Charvet V, who were his pride and joy.

Lyle leaves behind a loving family, including his wife of 50 years, Rhonda Taravella Panepinto; his children, Ryan Panepinto (Mike) and Lacey Charvet (Emile IV); his siblings, Lane Panepinto (Nancy) and Lance Panepinto (Paula); and sister-in-law Jodie Caluda (Daniel), along with a host of nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Panepinto and Joyce Bossier Panepinto, who instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication that he carried throughout his life.

He had a love for his brothers in the Delta Fraternity and was a Past President. Delta Fraternity holds an annual wild game dinner benefiting Children’s Hospital. An idea Lyle dreamed up after hosting Delta‘s club dinner in Southern Seaplane‘s hangar. Over the years Delta fraternity has raised over a quarter of $1 million and supports a room at the Ronald McDonald house. This year‘s wild game dinner was hosted on April 5 with a toast of remembrance to Lyle.

A celebration of Lyle's life will include a visitation at St. Cletus Catholic Church in Gretna, Louisiana, on April 12, 2025, beginning at 11AM. A Mass will follow at 1PM, and he will be lovingly inurned at Westlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Children’s Hospital in honor of Lyle Panepinto-Delta Fraternity.

Lyle will be remembered not only for his remarkable achievements and contributions to aviation but also for his unwavering love and devotion to his family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him.
