Mahlon “Jack” Apgar Reinhard III, 84 of Gretna, LA died February 5, 2025 at Ochsner Westbank Hospital. He was born June 25, 1940 to Mahlon and Mary Jeanette (Bell) Reinhard Jr in Kansas City, KS. Jack graduated from Kansas City University with a degree in Geology and then attended the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, MO, where he obtained a Master in Geology. He married Vivian Johnston and had two children – David Reinhard and Karen (Matthew) Vile. In 1962 after graduating with his Masters, he was employed by Texaco. After working in Wichita and Jackson, the company moved him to New Orleans. He worked for several other companies and even owned his own company for a while. The crash of the oil industry made him find other means of work. He sold cars and managed a fish store before finally managing a stamp store. This led to him opening his own store – Stamp Collectors Emporium where he was loved and respected by his customers. His passions in life included collecting stamps and was a long-term member and officer of the Crescent City Stamp Club. He loved watching NASCAR, cheering for Terry Labonte and Jeff Gordon, and watching football. He was a fan for the Kansas City Chiefs from the beginning of the franchise and later became a fan of the New Orleans Saints after he moved here. He was also an avid reader, especially history of America, New Orleans and geography. Jack is survived by a loving wife of 62 years Vivian, a son David, a daughter Karen (Vile), and two grandchildren Hannah and Malachi Vile. He was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother William “Lindy”, a sister Barbara, and a brother Lewis “George.” A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11 am at Berean Bible Church in Algiers, LA.
