Margaret Runyan Dodgen

October 24, 1918 — December 9, 2013

Margaret Runyan Dodgen passed away on December 9, 2013 at the age of 95 years. Beloved wife of the late Clinton “C.B.” Dodgen. Mother of Janet D. Belanger and Carol A. Brown (husband Billy). Grandmother of Clinton, Deborah, Floyd, Julia, Bryan, Damon and special friend and a part of our family, Mike Ardoin. Step-grandmother of Danny, David and Darrell. Great-grandmother of Joshua, Michelle, Candace, Dominic, Kathryn and Nicholas. Great-great-grandmother of Calleigh, Taden, Jada, Tyler, Matthew and Liam. She is preceded in death by her parents, Delie Brown Runyan and John Marshall Brown, her sisters, Gladys Robinson and Mary Ella Jett and two brothers, Guy Whatley and Warren Runyan.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Heartway Hospice of East Texas as well as her dear friends and caregivers, Lou Rhodes, Diane Gaspard, Heather Palmer and Ann Galvin.
Margaret was a longtime resident of Gretna, LA and lived most recently in Marshall, TX. She was once active at Calvary Baptist Church and a member for over 50 years of the William D. White O.E.S. Chapter No. 141. She was a member of the Queen of Spades Garden Club and loved to tend her garden. Margaret served her country during World War II, working as a welder in one of New Orleans’ shipyards, a true “Rosie the Riveter”. She loved her family dearly and treasured time spent with them, especially during Christmas. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services in the chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11 AM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 PM to 9 PM, resuming on Saturday from 8 AM to 11 AM. Donations in her memory may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in New Orleans ( www.calvaryneworleans.com ), to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children ( www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org ) or to the charity of your choice.
