Margie Agnes Jones

Margie K Jones, departed this life on Thursday, October 23, 2014. She was born in Algiers Louisiana on February 18, 1926 to Mr. Robert Gordon Kirk and his wife Catherine. After graduating from Behrman High School she worked for Latter and Blum Realtors. In 1946, Margie married Casey W. Jones. They have one son, Kirk G. Jones who after graduating from LSU went to work in the family grocery business which was established by Casey and Margie Jones In 1964. She is preceded in death by her sister Loretta Cozzens and is survived by a nephew, Robert Cozzens. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Dean Jones, a nephew Michael Jones ( Celine ) and many nieces and nephews in Ireland.
Margie is the founder and a dedicated member of Creative Planters Garden Club since 1958, likewise a former president. She was a Master Judge Emeritus of the LA Council of Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judges and New Orleans Council of NAFSJ past president. Margie was a life member of the National Garden Clubs Inc, the Deep South Region, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc and the Jefferson Parish Council of Garden Clubs Inc. past president (1991-93 ). She held many offices in these clubs and was the recipient of numerous awards for her diligent service including the Jefferson Council’s coveted Woman of the Year Award (1987). Foremost, Margie was recognized and always will be remembered for her generous contributions and tireless support of these organizations.
The family extends their gratitude and special thanks to her caregivers, Kim Heng, Geraldine Sims, Nita Bertacci, Denise Jensen, Dee Washington, Kimberly Toney, Geraldine Ford, and the staff of Notre Dame Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 924 Monroe St., Gretna, LA on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11 AM followed by a Mass at 1 PM. Interment at Westlawn Memorial Park
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to American Cancer Society, Mid South Division PO Box 3000, Kenner, LA 70063-3000 or University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center PO Box 4464, Houston, TX 77210-4464.
