Marguerite Guthrie Cavanah Boyd, age 96 entered into eternal rest on March 9, 2016.
A native of Louisiana and resident of Colorado since 2000, Marguerite, daughter of the late Eliza Marie Verdin Guthrie and James Joseph Guthrie is survived by daughters Kathleen Cavanah Brown (Harry), Pelham, Al., Colleen Cavanah Miller, Denver, Co., and Susan Cavanah Dicken Dunn (Harvey), Acworth, Ga.; grandchildren Lesley Dudley (Nick), Scott Brown, Stephen Miller (Cherlyn), Jeffrey Miller, Megan Dicken, Ross Dicken II (Antoinette), Ryan Dunn (Tiffany), Eric Dunn (Courtney); great-grandchildren Amelia Dudley, Elara and Riley Niblo-Miller, Preston and Brayden Miller, the late Isabella Dicken; Matthew, Marcus and Isaac Dunn, Dominic and Ameilla Dunn; sister of Leo J. “Buck” Guthrie, the late Lena Adam, Ida Cox, Whitney Guthrie, Lydia Scully, Edna Stentz, and Albert Guthrie; nieces and nephews Arden Cahill (Harry), Sherry Bunda, Marlyne Gross, Gerard Guthrie (Carol), Frederick Stentz (Susan), Brian Stentz (Phyllis), Harold Guthrie (Deborah), the late Sandra Guthrie, the late James Stentz, and many great nieces and nephews. Following graduation from Gretna High School, class of 1937, Marguerite completed her nursing education at Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans, in 1941. She enlisted in the United States Army Nurse Corps, and served as first lieutenant during WW II in the 7th Field Hospital, attached to General George Patton’s Third Army. Marguerite was given an honorable discharge from the Army Nurse Corps, December 10, 1945. Marguerite was married to the late John W. Cavanah, Jr., 1945-1967, and to the late Frederick H. Boyd, Jr., 1974-1990. She was head nurse at Willowwood Home for the Jewish Aged in New Orleans until her retirement from nursing in 1979. Graveside service and interment will be Monday, March 21, 2016, 11:00 a.m., Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Blvd, Gretna, La. 70056.
