Maria Gonzalez Davila

It is with great sadness and much love that the family of Maria “Nina” Gonzalez Davila announces her passing on April 6, 2024. Surrounded by family at her home in Gretna, Louisiana, Nina passed peacefully at 90 years of age. Born on December 1, 1933, in McAllen, Texas, she was the daughter of Fransisca Rivas (Raul Rodriguez) and Manuel Gonzalez. She was preceded in death by her brothers Jose, Manuel, Armando, and Roberto Gonzalez and her sister Paula Constancio. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter Norma Davila Guillory (Mark). Nina is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Robert Davila. After marrying in Lamesa, Texas, the couple moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and later settled in Gretna, Louisiana where they raised their daughters. Robert and Nina adored each other. She lived for him and he for her.  Nina will sadly be missed by her daughter Sandra Davila Abadie (Steve) of Gretna, LA, and sister Elena Rodriguez Castillo of Houston, TX. She is cherished by her grandchildren Nicole Guidry Briceno (Jason) of Hattiesburg, MS, Noel Guillory Killebrew (Derek) of Denver, CO, Leah Guillory Bateman (Casey) of St. Amant, LA, and Chad Abadie of Metairie, LA. She will fondly be remembered by her six great-grandchildren – Isabella and Sofia Briceno, Bjorn and Orson Killebrew, and Leo and Kai Bateman - as their “Nana.” Nina was a homemaker and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, baking, and spending time with her family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, LA on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 1:30pm. Visitation will be held from 11:30am until 1:30pm. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Father Michael Nguyen, Compassus Hospice, and all of the visitors for their kindness and support to Nina and her family during the last few months.
