Marina ‘Mim’ “Mawmaw” “Old Mawmaw” Therese Gonzales Comeaux has joined her maker and was reunited with her husband Louis on Saturday November 19th, 2011. Marina was 99 years young (January 24, 1912). She was born on Grand Isle and resided in Harvey for the past 73 years. She was a direct descendant of Louisiana Governor Pierre François de Rigaud, Marquis de Vaudreuil-Cavagnal (1743-1753). She was the daughter of Emma Rigaud Gonzales and Valentine Gonzales. She left behind a son, Kenneth V. Comeaux (Helen), her daughter, Sherryl Comeaux Mouton Benbow (Michael), Grandchildren, Kerry V. Comeaux (Lisa), Keith V. Comeaux (Lisa), Glynn L. She has one surviving sister, Juanita Gonzales Strander (Knute), one brother and two sisters deceased, Almon Gonzales (Marie), Aenida ‘Zas’ Gonzales Fortmayer (Teddy), Norma Gonzales Gegenheimer (Stanley). There are multiple nieces and nephews.
Marina loved people, children, pets and her flowers. In her younger years she worked at Continental Can Company in Marrero. She was a superb seamstress. She was owner of G & C Hardware in Harvey. In her mid 80s she retired from bowling because of back pain. At the age of 97, she loved to frequent Boomtown Casino with her three sisters. A dedicated ‘Cubs’ and ‘Saints’ fan, rejoicing when they won, and pouting when they lost. Her true love of life was fishing. Mim and Lou appeared on Frank Davis’ Fish and Game Report with Frank and Phil Robicheaux. Mom recently appeared last year again with Frank to reminisce about past fishing trips.
The family of Marina Comeaux can never express enough gratitude and appreciation to our God sent ‘Extended Family’ to care for Mom over the past two years. They not only took care of her, but each gave her their special love and affection. Without them, she wouldn’t have made survived to the ripe old age of 99. Near the very end, we also would like to also thank Guardian Hospice for their love and caring support.
Mom/Mim/MawMaw will be sadly missed by all. We take pleasure and rejoice in knowing that she is no longer is in pain, and has lived life to its fullest. God has truly blessed her and those who knew and loved her.
