Mario Amir Martinez

Mario Amir Martinez entered into eternal rest on July 31, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 44 years, Maria Julia. He is survived by his four children: Christian Martinez (Jessica), Mike Martinez (Kim), Susie Martinez, and Gabby Hewitt (Mike), his 7 grandchildren: Cole, Kaylee, Emma, Mikey, Mason, Jaxon “JJ," and Julia; and two siblings Gilma Martinez de Gutierrez (Oscar) and Douglas Martinez (Claudia). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A native of El Salvador, Mario was a longtime resident of Gretna, LA. He spent numerous years as an educator teaching French and Spanish both in El Salvador and in the New Orleans area. He also spent several years as a social worker for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, teaching English as a second language. 

When not working he enjoyed studying history, reading, keeping up with current events, and listening to music which included 70s rock and his favorite, the Beatles. 

The family will have a grave site service at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Ave., Terrytown, LA 70056 on Friday August 25th at 12:30pm. There, he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Maria Julia Martinez, who passed away 2 years prior.
