Marvin Clayton "Butch" Wingerter, born on March 23, 1926, passed away on August 18, 2016 at the age of 90 after a long bout of illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Beckham Wingerter of 61 years and their four children, Ann Cazalot (Clarence), Nancy Fontaine (Danny), Marvin Clayton Wingerter, Jr. (Pattie) and Michael Gerard Wingerter (Corinne), his ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Son of the late Marguerite and Sylvester Wingerter. Brother of Sylvia Parr, Anita Alexander, Verna Miles, Roland Wingerter, and Marguerite Desselle and the late Sylvester and William Wingerter.
Marvin was a WWII veteran having served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Clarendon APA-72 and piloted a New Orleans made Higgins boat. He retired from the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board where he worked for thirty-one years. Marvin enjoying ballroom dancing most of his life. He and his wife Margaret particularly enjoyed dancing at Jefferson Orleans with their friends. He was an avid sports fan excelling in boxing and baseball. Marvin was scouted as an athlete of interest by the Washington Senators professional baseball team. He enjoyed volunteering as League Director for many Algiers softball and Mel Ott semi-pro baseball leagues. He was a big New York Yankees baseball fan and loved his New Orleans Saints.
Marvin was a loving husband and father. He loved being in the company of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A special thanks to the staff of Hospice Compassus of New Orleans for their support, care and compassion. Addition thanks to the staff at Home Instead senior care for their care and compassion. Dr. Libby Ellent and Dr. Randall Wilk were also instrumental in the care of Marvin during his long bout of illness. We thank them for their excellent care.
Visitation will be held at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3101 Eton Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70131 on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 9 AM until 11 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment will take place at Westlawn Memorial Park,1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, Louisiana 70056.
