Mary Buras Burney

Mary Rita Buras Burney was born February 10, 1922 and passed away on January 10, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Robert P. Burney, Sr. Mother of Bobby Burney (Wife Sue). Grandmother of Jodie M. Burney Carter (Husband Brandon). Sister of the late Sug Katicich. Daughter of the late Virginia Ragas Buras and William A. Buras. Special Aunt of Jo Ann S. Stross (Husband Bill), Darby S. Russo (Husband Lawrence), and Melanie S. White (Husband Jack). Also survived by many other nieces and nephews. Rita was born in New Orleans, but lived most of her life in Buras, LA amidst a large extended family. It was in Buras, while employed at Elston’s, that she met Bob, the love of her life. Her family was completed when her son married Sue and gave birth to her granddaughter, Jodie. Her final days were spent in Livingston, LA with Bobby, Sue, Jodie, Brandon and Bosco. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 9AM until 12 Noon. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the funeral home on Saturday at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
