Mary Ann Hastings went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. She died peacefully at home on her husband’s, Reg, birthday.Beloved wife of the late Reg Hastings of 62 years. Loving mother of Scott Hastings (Diny), Sharon Billeaud (Paul) and Ann LeBlanc (the late Ashton “Manny”). Sister of Judy Harris (Murray). Aunt of four special nieces. Also survived by six grandchildren, Brian (Andrea) and Eric Billeaud, Katie Lewis (Peter), Scott and Reggie Hastings, and Joey LeBlanc, and two great grandchildren Paul James and Mary Beth Billeaud.
Mary Ann was born September 20, 1928 in Nashville, Arkansas to Carl and Mary Davis. After the death of her mother, in childbirth, she spent her early years looking for a good mom for her and wife for Papaw. She found Julia Bridges and proposed to her. Mamaw was the epitome of unconditional love. Later, a sister Judy was added to make the family complete.
She and Reg attended University of Oklahoma, where she obtained her degree in Home Economics and later received an Education Certification from Holy Cross College in New Orleans. She touched many lives as a teacher, first at Grace Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, Aurora Gardens Academy, and Belle Chasse Elementary in New Olreans.
She helped with many family moves as an Exxon wife with the final move to New Orleans in 1969. She was active in Republican Woman organizations; chairman for many years of the Walnut Bend Night Out Against Crime. She spent much time helping with political campaigns in New Orleans and any cause she felt passionate about. She loved to host friends and family and show them her New Orleans.
Family and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Oak Park Baptist Church, 1110 Kabel Drive, New Orleans, La. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 1pm to 2pm.
