Mary Lou Lanier Fife

Mary Lou Lanier Fife, born January 2, 1909 in Gretna, LA, passed away at the remarkable age of 107 April 27, 2016, in Dallas TX, her home for the last 25 years. A graduate of Sophie Newcomb College, she obtained a degree in physics and excelled in athletics, earning the nickname “Lanky Lanier.” She taught math and physics for 34 years in Jefferson Parish and was a member of her parish sodality, Catholic Daughters of America (since 1927), Red Cross (42 years), Immaculate Conception Altar Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, and West Jefferson Hospital Auxiliary. A woman of deep faith, she was a role model for all those whose lives she touched. Her entire life was spent in service to her family, church, community and country. Preceded in death by her husband, John Germain Fife, and brothers, Joe and John Lanier. Survived by daughters Jeanne Luft and Judy Mead (Bob), grandchildren Lisa Davis, Robert Mead, Lanier Mead Hartnagle (Michael), and Price Mead, great granddaughters Abby Davis and Grace Wattigney. Rosary at 9:00a.m. on Monday, May 2 at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Vallette St., Algiers, LA, with Graveside Services at 10:30 a.m. at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Ave., Gretna, LA. Visitation at the funeral home on Monday, May 2, from 8:00a.m. until 10:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, please have Masses offered.
