Mathilda Gambino Champagne passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Royal J. Champagne, Jr. Former wife of the late Ernest Berthelot, Sr. Mother of R.J., Donald (Peggy), and Ronnie Champagne, and the late Ernest Berthelot, Jr. (Brenda). Daughter of the late Samuel Gambino, Sr. and Mathilda Root Gambino. Sister of Betty Glass, Leroy Gambino, and the late Mary Cambre, Samuel Gambino, Jr., Evelyn Zeringue, Anthony Gambino, Evangeline Boudoin, Dorris Picarella, and Margaret Galley. Grandmother of Brenda Lee Graham (Robert), Lisa Hidalgo (Lawrence), Crystal Melancon (T-Mike), Candi Scallan (Jeff), Emily Schwark (Brian), Stephen and Heather Champagne. Great grandmother of 12. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Age 96 years, a lifelong resident of Waggaman, LA and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Waggaman, LA. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1:30 PM.
