Mavis Pickron Velasquez

Mavis P. “Mae” Velasquez entered into eternal rest at the family home in Gulf Breeze, Florida on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of the late Carlos E. Velasquez, Jr. Daughter of the late Callie and Ira Pickron. Mother of Mark Hernandez, Michael Velasquez and Judith Ann Velasquez. Grandmother of Christine Yurttas, Joseph Hernandez, Michael Velasquez, Jr., Joel Velasquez-LaVigne, Jade Velasquez-LaVigne, Darren “P-Nut” Obrien-LaVigne and Albert LaVigne. Great Grandmother of Cassey, Jon Jon, Cole and Kaitlyn. Sister of Mary Lois Pratt, Daisy Walsh and the late David Pickron, Ivory Pickron, Idell Harrelson and MaeBell Colgin. Also survived by her brothers-in-law, Scott Pratt, Jim Walsh; her sister-in-law, Bettye Ann Pickron and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mavis was owner of Val’s Hardware, Furniture and Appliance Store in Marrero and numerous Meineke Discount Muffler Shops in New Orleans and the Westbank. She volunteered at West Jefferson Hospital for many years. She was born in Florala, Alabama and resided in Harvey, LA and Gulf Breeze, Florida. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 10AM until 11:30AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:30AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Information: 504-366-4343.
