MELANIE JO BEKERIS (Age 66) passed away on August, 1, 2013, at her home in New Orleans. Born February 27, 1947 in Missoula, Montana, she was the daughter of the late Melford Kehrwald and Dorothy Touchette.
Melanie married Colonel Joseph Albert Bekeris III, USMC, (Ret.) on November 7, 1970, at the Patrick Air Force Base Chapel in Satellite Beach, FL. They were happily married for 42 years. During Joe's military career they were stationed all over the world. Melanie was a devoted mother and military wife. She was actively involved supporting young sailors and marines through the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society. She was a member of the Naval Support Activity, New Orleans, Chapel choir, creative floral designer and faithful fan for her children and husband’s sporting events. After Joe’s retirement from the Marine Corps, she and her husband were residents of New Orleans (Algiers Point) and Port Sulphur, LA.
Melanie is preceded in death by her son, Courtney Hames. She is survived by her sisters, Denise and Marsha Touchette; brother, Doug Touchette and wife, Renee Touchette; brother, Larry Kehrwald and wife Glenda Kehrwald. Daughters, Anjanette Consolini and husband, Todd Consolini; daughter, Rana Lowman and husband, Kerry Lowman; daughter, Rhea Bekeris and fiancé, Gordon Woodroof; five grandchildren, Catherine, Vanessa, Elisabeth Consolini, and Koryn Carr; and two great-grandchildren, Jayla and Gia Consolini. The family would like to acknowledge healthcare provider and friend, Rayzelle Coster, for her loving care for the last year.
