Merlin John Stelly

Merlin John Stelly died at home on Monday, June 24, 2024, with his loving wife of 67 years by his side. 

Son of the late Felix and Corine Stelly. Brother of Eli, Irving, Daniel, Bobby, Helen, Gloria, Joann, Harold, and Donna. Beloved husband of Mary Monson Stelly. Father of Sheila Stelly Chauvin, Michael Stelly, Pamela Stelly, and Kathleen Stelly. Father-in-law of Jeffery Chauvin Sr., Mary Chiasson Stelly, and David Chivatero. Grandfather to Derek, Matthew, Jeffery, Joshua, Gabrielle, and Alexis. Great-grandfather to six, with many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Merlin was known as a lover of music and festivals, a great photographer, and an avid gardener. His first job was as a projectionist at the movie theater in Leonville when he was just a teenager, and his later career included time at Winn-Dixie and Western and Southern Life Insurance. 

Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 1:30PM in the Chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., in Marrero, LA. Visitation will begin at 11:30AM. Interment will follow immediately after mass at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Westwego, LA.
