Merlin Paul Vegas, Sr.

Merlin Paul Vegas, Sr. age 69 peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 after a year long courageous battle with lung cancer. He shared a life full of love and laughter with his wife of 48 years, Carolyn “Lou” Pertuit Vegas. A loving father and father-in-law to Michelle and Tim Conrad, Merlin, Jr. and Jade Vegas and Monica and Shane Allemore. Most loving PawPaw to Timothy Rhoto (Christi), Megan Conrad, Shiloh Novak, Rykin Vegas, Mason and Maxton Allemore, Elizabeth Baye and four great grandsons; Adam Matherne, Tyler, Taylor and Cameron Rhoto. Son of the late Eugene J. and Eva Rawle Vegas. Son-in-law of the late Johnny J. and Lois Pertuit. Brother and Brother-in-law of Eugene Vegas (Nancy), Lorraine Peterson, Carroll Vegas (Myrtle), Beryl Whitney (Rene), the late Cynthia Vegas, Allen Pertuit (Debbie), Linda Autin (the late Alex), Wayne Pertuit, Sr. (Sherry), Laura Pertuit, the late John Pertuit (Vernice) and the late Ann Pertuit. He was known as Pops/Ol’ Dog to his “boys”, Merlin Vegas, Jr., Tim Conrad, Shane Allemore, Gregg Vegas, Kenny Kamas, Jr., Chuck, Henry Jr., Rob Wedge III, Flint Lepine and David Manshack. Dog Pound Forever, “Woof Woof”!! He will be missed by countless other family and friends. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Vijay Patel; his Nurse, Anna; West Jefferson Cancer Center’s Staff; Hospice Compassus; Nurse Laura; Aide Lisa; and all others who provided assistance throughout his battle. A Visitation will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 9AM until 1PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 1PM. Interment will follow in McDonogh Cemetery, Gretna, LA. HE WILL FOREVER LIVE IN OUR HEARTS.
