Mervin “Buddy” Burlette Sr. passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022 at the age of 96. Beloved husband of the late Mary Helen Burlette by first marriage and the late Hilda Ballay Burlette by second marriage. Father of Charlie Burlette (Mertie), Terry Burlette (Patty), Richard Burlette (Danielle), Phillip Burlette (Sherry), Thomas Burlette (Helen), Kent Burlette (Cindy), Raymond Burlette (Julie), Gene Burlette (Charlotte), the late Mervin “Butch” Burlette Jr. (Debbie), Keith Burlette, and Bettie Ritchey (Henry). Brother of Ronnie Burlette (Gloria), Leroy Burlette (Charlotte), the late Henry Burlette Jr. (Corinne), Rolland Burlette (Catherine), and Dennis Burlette (Margaret). Son of the late Leone Jorden Burlette and Henry Burlette. Also survived by numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Mervin was born and raised in Algiers, LA and attended Behrman High School. He worked as a lifeguard at the Behrman pool and was a talented swimmer and diver. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in Guam. Following his military service, he attended trade school and began working as a civil service carpenter on the Algiers Naval Base and NAS-Belle Chasse. Following his civil service retirement, he worked as a general contractor and later, worked for Regions Bank managing several projects. He was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 6357. Buddy loved building model boats and enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed.
The visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 9:30am to 11am. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna, LA.
