Mildred M. Proske was born in Baltimore, MD on August 29, 1917 and passed away on September 22, 2013 at Woldenberg Village where she had been a resident for the last several years.
She was the daughter of the late Herman Otto Proske and Regina Waldmann Proske who became naturalized U.S. citizens from Germany. Mildred attended Central High School in Washington, DC and University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. She moved to New Orleans, LA to obtain her MSW (Masters of Social Work) from Tulane University. Afterwards, she worked for Family Services for over 30 years. She and Alma Smith, a fellow social worker, bought a home together on the Westbank where they lived for over 50 years. The two of them vacationed regularly in Sanibel Island in Florida. They also regularly took tours in the U.S. and abroad with their friends.
A private graveside service was held at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna, LA. A memorial celebration of Mildred’s life will be held at Woldenberg Village at a later date.
