Mirta Maria F. de Castro Serrano passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Mirta was born in Bayamo, Cuba and was a resident of Gretna, LA. She is survived by her loving son, Rafael Gonzalez and his wife Lorrie. She was also grandmother to Christopher and had three great-grandchildren, Priscilla, Penelope, and Lucas. She was also stepmother to two stepsons, Miguel (deceased) and his wife Reina, and to Jorge Jr. and his wife Emily. She was the last surviving sibling of nine brothers and sisters. She was lovingly taken care of in her last months by her nieces: Maria (Maloli) Hernandez, Ashley de Castro, and Maria Longoria; as well as her two caretakers Amalia Zacarias and Elidia Zacarias. After Mirta came to the U.S. she became a Pathologist at Tulane Medical Center until her retirement. Mirta survived her two husbands Miguel Gonzalez and Jorge Serrano. Mirta was loved by many and is now in the Arms of the Lord!
