Murphy"Cotton" Louis Cortez Sr.

Murphy "Cotton" Louis Cortez, Sr. entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2023 at the age of 97. Murphy was the beloved husband of the late Myrtle Folse Cortez. A native of Pontchatoula, LA and a longtime resident of Westwego, LA and Marrero, LA, Murphy was predeceased by his three children Victor L. Cortez (the late Kathleen), Murphy L. Cortez (Beth), and Connie C. Chedville (Wayne). Grandfather of Renee C. Parks, Kris C. Ham, Stacie C. Guidry, Tracie C. Ross, Kim C. Fugarino, Drew Cortez, and Cory Cortez. Cotton was born on August 29, 1926 to the late Victor N. Cortez Sr. and the late Olympia B. Cortez. Brother of Leroy Cortez (Carmen), the late Malcolm Cortez, the late Victor Cortez Jr., the late Floyd Cortez, the late Manual Cortez, and the late Elsia C. Callegan. Murphy is survived by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Murphy served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a devout parishioner of St. Joachim Catholic Church. He was a retired employee of American Cyanamid where he worked as an instrumentation electrician. He will be dearly missed by many. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1PM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum in Westwego, LA.  In Lieu of flowers, donations to either St. Joachim Catholic Church or the Diabetes Association.
