Nettie Matherne Gaddis, 95 years old, passed away in her home peacefully on
November 26, 2024. Born to the late Pierre and Melodia Matherne in Raceland,
LA, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Edward Gaddis, and
her siblings Eldon P. Matherne, Ivy J Matherne, Sr, Nelson Matherne, Roy
Matherne, Mabel Matherne Pitre, Essie Matherne Cole and Pearl Matherne Reed
She is survived by her children, Glenda Gaddis Allen (Scott), Daryl Gaddis
(Roseann), and Wade Gaddis; Granddaughter Robyn Kirchhoff and Great
Granddaughter Alexis Marshall; Nieces Janine Savoie; Diana Redd, Faye Dubois
and Gail Mace, Nephews Mark Pitre, Roy Reed, Benny Matherne, Terry Paul
Matherne, Johnny Matherne, Jimmy Matherne and Dirk Matherne, and many great
nieces and nephews.
The youngest of eight children, Nettie moved with her parents from Raceland, LA,
to Harvey, LA at the age of ten, and finally settled in Gretna for the last 68yrs.
She was a member and held office at the Marrero Lion’s Club and The Moose
Lodge, running bingo and furthering the cause of these charitable organizations.
She was also a member of Grela and Octavia carnival clubs.
She was one of a kind, loved life and was loved back by so many, too many to
count. If she met you and you were from the area, she would ask who your mom
and dad were, and with a high percentage of certainty she would know them, and
your uncles and aunts. She loved dancing when she was young enough to do it,
and fishing until she could not hold a rod anymore. And she loved the New
Orleans Saints.
She will be missed by all, but her memories will live on in all the people whose
hearts she touched. From a quote from a friend, “The heart misses most what it
loved the best.”
To honor our mother's wishes, there will be no funeral service. I invite you to
please privately celebrate Nettie’s memory in your own way. I know that she will
be with us all in spirit. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time
MOTHE Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. The family kindly invites you to share thoughts, fondest memories, and condolences online at www.MotheFunerals.com.
