Olof J. “O.J.” Bentel Jr. passed away on April 6, 2015 at the age of 78 years. Beloved husband of Nelda Walker Bentel. Father of William “Joey” Bentel (Donna), Dennis Bentel (Margaret), Lisa Bentel Perez (Chris) and Kevin Bentel. Grandfather of Christopher, Jordan, Krystle (Andrew), Jonathan, Tara, Michelle (Donaldvon), Danielle, Kevin, Amanda and Kaitlyn. Great-grandfather of Olivia, Alaina and Kandace. Brother of Una Bentel Ritzman and the late George Bentel. Son of the late Una Blanchard Bentel and Olof J. Bentel Sr. Also survived by his former son-in-law, Oliver Silvey and former daughter-in-law Patricia Polland, along with many other family members and friends.
O.J. served his country in the U.S. Army and later retired as a Deputy Sheriff from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was a longtime member and Deacon with First Baptist Church of Gretna. He was a lifetime member of Louisiana Kids and served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 440 that was chartered through the Terrytown Playground. A born volunteer, he always stood ready to lend a helping hand and was never shy about being in the “spotlight”. His life and activities touched so many lives and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1:30 PM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park. Parlors will be open Friday from 6 PM to 9 PM, resuming on Saturday from 10 AM to 1:30 PM.
