Owen “Clyde” Cecil saw his last sunset on July 22nd, 2023. He was born in Harrisburg, Texas on December 12, 1927, to the late Owen and Bertha Ryder Cecil. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Shofner Cecil; daughter, Cynthia Cecil Byrne; son, David Owen Cecil; sisters, Mary Lura Reames and Virginia Lee White; brother, Sydney Ryder; nephews, Stuart, Steve, and Sydney Reames. He is survived by granddaughters, Callie Leigh Frickey (Coral) and Amy Kristin Byrne Young (Shane); greatgrandchildren, Charles Bentley Fitzgerald, John Dylan Fitzgerald, Gabriella Frickey, Coral Frickey Jr., Joseph Frickey, and Caden Young; nephews, Stanley Reames and James White; nieces, Tania Reames, Sharon Roche, Kathy Shipp, and Jennifer Pellegrini; great-nieces, Ashley Totten and Rachel Robinson; as well as many other loved ones. An avid Aggies fan, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1947 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Clyde met and married Betty in Corpus Christi, Texas. They resided in New Orleans, Grand Isle, Houston, Woodsboro and Kingsville, Texas while Clyde worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Humble Oil (Exxon). They took great pleasure in their family and traveled extensively stateside and overseas, visiting Europe, Asia, Africa, and the South Pacific Islands. Clyde and Betty lived in Australia for three years before returning to New Orleans in 1975. Clyde was a longtime member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and spent time as the Treasurer there. He always had a smile on his face and was joking until the end. He will be sorely missed by everyone he met. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and reception at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church 3643 Aurora Drive, New Orleans, LA 70131, on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
