Paul Lawrence Becnel Sr.

Paul Lawrence Becnel, Sr., a retired barber, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the age of 89. Born in Algiers, LA to the late Elodie Falgoust Becnel and Joseph P. Becnel Sr. Beloved husband of Vera Mineo Becnel. Father of Paul L. Becnel, Jr. (Nancy) and Kathy Becnel Haney (Tommy). Grandfather of Paul Brodie Becnel (Christy), Dillon C. Entrekin (Shannon), Michael P. Entrekin (Ann), Stephen F. Becnel (Kristin), Nicholas L. Becnel, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Brother of Helen Becnel Brookman, and the late Joseph P. Becnel, Jr., O’Neil J. Becnel, Velma Becnel Schexnayder, and Louise Becnel Stute.
After joining the Marine Corp and serving his country during World War II in Pelieu and China, he returned to Algiers and began his career as a barber. Having been an active member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, he received the St. Louis Medal and continued for many years as an usher. He was a member of the Krewe of Alla and reigned as king in 1974. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1724, Order of Alhambra, and American Legion Post 218 in Algiers. He was the founder and president of the Best Bank Track Club.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11 AM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Visitation will be Friday morning from 9 AM until 11 AM.
