Paul Lee Cook

February 6, 1944 — December 19, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Paul Lee Cook, a beloved husband, father, ‘Pops’, and friend. Paul Lee, age 80, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Ochsner Medical Center. Born on February 6, 1944 in Port Sulphur, Louisiana, Paul Lee grew up the second of four sons to Claude Lee Cook and Edna Yuratich Cook. He was a life-long resident of Buras, Louisiana attending Buras High School. Later in life, Paul Lee served as a sergeant in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany from 1965-1967. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 193 located in Buras. Paul Lee volunteered his time as a Buras Bantam League baseball and football coach and was also a Buras Wildcat Booster Club member, cheering on his two sons and their teammates. He was a charter member of the elite Gas House Gang, a group who regularly hung out at Larry’s Exxon Station. Later, the Gas House Gang became a local baseball team, rarely winning games, but always coming home with the beer trophy! A devoted LSU fan, Paul Lee was an armchair coach who supported his favorite team through good times and bad. Another passion was his love for Mardi Gras, Paul Lee’s favorite holiday. For over 56 years Paul Lee made wonderful memories with his good friend, Gary Sercovich, even cutting his honeymoon short so he and his wife could get to New Orleans and head to the French Quarter! Paul Lee was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time in a blind or on a boat with family and friends. He was the owner and captain of the M/V Goltie Sue. For 48 years, he crossed the Mississippi River and headed to Black Bay without ever missing a day of work. Paul Lee retired in 2014. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of good friends, and his 4-legged companion, Roux. Paul Lee is preceded in death by his parents Claude Lee Cook and Edna Yuratich Cook, his favorite aunt, Pearl Yuratich, brothers Carl H. Cook and Glen M. Cook, and granddaughter, Eden N. Serpas. He is survived by his brother Claude Michael Cook (Tiffany), Darla Roberts and Diane Castoe, considered the sisters he never had, his devoted wife, Martha Sue Callais Cook, their children Goltie Sue, Paul Lee II (Mandy), Shalom Cook Serpas, and Joshua (Karen). Grandchildren include Isaac and Bryce Cook, Luke (Khalajah), Ella, and Emmie Serpas, and Liam Cook. Bonus grandchildren are Lauren V. Dandry (Rene’), Ellen Voiron (Steven), and Lane Voiron. Great-grandchildren include Jrue, Luna, and Khylinn Serpas, Jameela Davis, and bonus great-grandchildren Jane and Claire Dandry, Nora, Jules, and Jude Vicknair. Paul Lee will forever live in our hearts. He will be truly missed by so many. As Cootsie T. would say, “Paul Lee, Darryl Eymard and Layne Pelas, ‘The 3 Asses’, are finally together again.” Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Trinity Christian Community Church, 36674 Highway 11, Buras, Louisiana on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 9:30AM until 12 Noon.
