Peter Joseph Vicari entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 27, 2024 at the age of 83. He was born in Alia, Sicily to the late Salvatore Vicari and the late Conchetta Castiglione Vicari. He came to America with his father in 1956 at the age of 15. His mother and siblings joined them in 1958.
He was the brother of Sara Vicari Jambon (Gerald) and the late Angelo Vicari (Nellie). The loving father of Victor Vicari (Theresa), Victoria Vicari Stipelcovich (Jan) and Vanessa (Jason Rothschmitt) with first wife, the late Brenda Bourgeois Vicari. The adoring grandfather to Alexandria, Braden, Brooks, Briggs and great grandfather to Layla. He was remarried to Jacquelyn Landry Vicari in 2007 and was stepfather to Brent, Timothy (Stephanie), Michelle Scarbrough (Russell) and step grandfather to many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He graduated high school at West Jefferson High School. In 1965, Peter and his then Father-in-Law the late Mandry Bourgeois opened Jefferson Fiberglass Company, the original builder of the fiberglass skiff known as the Jefferson Skiff or its more familiar name the Lafitte Skiff/Shrimp Boat. The skiff was used in many industries including marine, oil and gas, restaurants, waste water, transport, utilities, and recreation. He was happy knowing what the company created allowed many to create livelihoods as employees or those using the skiff to catch fresh, local seafood. His son Victor and his daughter Victoria were involved in every aspect of the business for the majority of their lives. When Mandry passed away Peter continued the business along with his kids. Peter sold Jefferson Fiberglass in 2015 after 50 years due his steady decline with Parkinson's. The business is still in operation.
Outside of work he loved woodworking, tinkering with everything, vegetable and fruit gardening, making Red Gravy, going for rides, family events, attending parades and stepping on doubloons (so no one else could get them). He also enjoyed his wine, Saints and LSU games and playing Bocce, Chombi, and horseshoes. Peter was a member and Past Master of the Etoile Polaire Masonic Lodge, which he joined in 1974.
Peter and Jacquelyn were loving, respectful spouses who showed true love and devotion. Always laughing and an example to all. Peter was so determined and strong through his 14 years with Parkinson's. Throughout many years of declining changes, in 2020 Peter and Jacquelyn decided it was best for his care to be at home. She easily accepted being his caretaker which is not always an easy task. She looked after him, loved him, and cared for him with the same devotion she had always done.
Peter had such a love for God, life, and his family. He was a giver, an encourager, and a great listener. He was creative, funny and a great mentor, businessman, and employer. Peter's personality, smile, and good heart is unforgettable. He will be greatly missed.
