After graduating from Gretna High School in 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy L. Glenn, on May 31st 1952. This was the beginning of a devoted lifelong partnership. He patiently served as a personal driver for his grandchildren during their school years. He was a thoughtful decorator during the holidays as well as a dutiful handyman and assistant gardener helping his wife maintain a beautiful home and yard.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 72 years, Dorothy Matherne, his loving children Julie Burke (Butch) and Randy Matherne (Diane) and his much-loved grandchildren Daniel Burke, Elizabeth Burke and Saul Gonzalez.
