Ray C. McKee, lovingly known as “Pops,” born June 28, 1944 passed away in his home at the age of 78 on April 26, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Payton McKee, step-sons Stanley and Ernest Thomas, as well as seven children from his first marriage: Daniel, Timothy, Rebekah, Rachel, Deborah and Stephen McKee in addition to his brother, Bob McKee. He was predeceased by his first son Michael McKee and his sibling Patricia McKee. Ray was also a grandfather to 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Ray was a long-time resident of the New Orleans area. His parents, Elbert McKee and Anne Tillery McKee gave birth to Ray in Baptist Hospital in New Orleans and raised him in Waynesboro, MS. He completed high school and undertook undergraduate studies before attending vocational training for diesel-powered equipment. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war for two years and afterwards worked as a heavy equipment mechanic on the Mississippi River throughout his life until a much deserved retirement.
Ray was a devout Minister of Jehova throughout his life and in retirement, traveled around the world making friends and helping others.
A memorial service will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehova’s Witnesses, 3031 Behrman Highway, New Orleans, LA 70114 on Saturday May 13, 2023 at 1:00pm.
