Raymond Joseph Labit passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of the late Mardery Mae Scott Labit. Father of Debbie L. Gros (Jessie III), the late Larry P. Labit, and Raymond J. Labit, Jr. Son of the late Viola Pierron Labit and O’Neil C. Labit. Brother of Vera L. Riggs (the late Jimmy), Norbert Labit (Joy), Norma L. Naquin (Donald), James Labit (Margaret), and Betty L. Mercer (the late Al). Stepbrother of the late Louis Labit, O’Neil Labit, Jr. (the late Florence), and Clotile L. Boudreaux (the late Paul). Grandfather of Brittney Gros Bellanger (Cody) and Jessie N. Gros, IV. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A native of Houma, LA and resident of Gretna, LA for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. He was an active parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, as well as a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medal. He was an avid gardener, loved football, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 1:30 PM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9 AM until funeral time.
