Rex Bernard Fortmayer passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of Evelyn Palmer Fortmayer. Loving father of Jan Fortmayer Dybul (Gary) and Ken Fortmayer (Cheryl). Grandfather of Aubrey Fortmayer and the late Derek Fortmayer. Brother of Henry “Butch” Fortmayer (Faye), the late Geraldine Gautreaux and Sharon Fortmayer. Son of the late Gladys Pertuit Fortmayer and Henry Fortmayer. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends.
Rex was born and raised in Westwego, LA. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and later retired from Shell Oil after 35 years of dedicated service. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, trawling, and golf. He enjoyed his time in the kitchen, woodworking, and trips to the casino. He will be sadly missed.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Westwego, LA on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Westwego.
