Rhonda Lynn Sawyer

June 16, 1966 — November 6, 2022

On Sunday, November 6, 2022, Rhonda Lynn Sawyer, 56, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 16, 1966, in Gretna, LA, to Louis “Buddy” Sawyer Sr. and Aline Lutz Sawyer. After attending West Jefferson High School, she lived in Los Angeles and Georgia, but returned home in her late twenties to live out her remaining days.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Cliff Wattigny Sr., and sisters-in-law, Peggy Graves Sawyer and Lynn Ortolano Sawyer. Surviving family members include her older siblings: Louis “Pete” Sawyer Jr. (Kerry), Toni Wattigny, Tom Sawyer, Tim Sawyer (Becky), Dan Sawyer (Sue), and Chris Sawyer (Kerri); her nieces and nephews: Peri Adam (Craig) Terri Wetherington (Tim), Holli Delaune (Wayne), Heather Royer (Todd), Cliff Wattigny Jr. , Scott Sawyer, Tommy Sawyer (Katie), Tim Sawyer, Brandi Maillho (Adam), Alyssa Prejean, Karli Hebert and the youngest, her beloved Amber Sawyer (Peyton Adam) who often lived with her over the years along with countless friends and other relatives.
She was most looking forward to soon welcoming her first great-great-nephew in a couple of weeks. You did not have to be biologically related to be considered family. This was evident in her relationship with Steve Terry III, a young man she first hired when she was a manager at Champs. She spent her career in retail until her battle with terminal ovarian cancer no longer allowed her to work. However, her zest for life prevailed and she spent the next few years traveling with family and friends to almost every place on her bucket list. She was a valiant fighter who approached every situation with positivity, acceptance and humor. Rhonda truly “Lived like she was dying” because she always stated she was in overtime after her near-death experience at the age of 28.
Thanks to the staff of Anvoi Hospice Care for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
