Richard D. Cabaniss Ii

d. April 28, 2012

Richard D. Cabaniss, II, an avid Louisiana sportsman, died Saturday, April 28th, 2012 at the age of 64. He spent his last days surrounded by his adoring friends and family. He is survived by his loving friend Diane V. Lee, daughter Kerrin Cabaniss Farkas, son-in-law Steve Farkas, and daughter Meaghan Cabaniss. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Logan Cabaniss Cognevich, Katherine Farkas and Teresa Farkas; sisters, Sheryl Travis and Jennifer Cabaniss; and niece Brook-Leigh Brignac Carr. He graduated from Martin Behrman High School, where he was a Behrman Bee playing basketball and football, and attended Southeastern University. A resident of Belle Chasse for over 40 years, Richard devoted his free time to fishing and hunting in the back bayous and secret hideaways of Lake Hermitage with many of his like-minded friends. As soon as each duck season ended, his countdown to the next one began. Over the years, his hunting and fishing partners have become his extended family, truly appreciated and treasured. When he wasn’t at “The Camp”, Richard loved watching golf, listening to talk radio and assisting the meteorologists in making their weather predictions (which Richard claimed was only right about 60% of the time). A true Cajun at heart, he enjoyed cooking up meals for his friends and family. He was an electrician with a specialty in electrical construction, employed by Hi-Tech Electric and previously by Westbank Electric since 1970. Through his hard work and dedication, the lights continue to shine down upon many of the fields of New Orleans’ athletes, including his favorite team: the Green Wave. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Cabaniss and Nellene Weaver Cabaniss, brother Michael Cabaniss, and nephew Joshua Cabaniss. Please contact the family for further details on the date and location of Memorial Services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Louisiana Wildlife Federation ( http://www.lawildlifefed.org ), to help preserve Louisiana's Sportsman’s Paradise that Richard cherished so dearly. Mothe Funeral Home at 504.366.4343 in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may view and sign the online guestbook at www.mothefunerals.com .
