Rita Elizabeth Ernst Fontenot, 91, of New Orleans, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014.

Ridge; two granddaughters, Christine (Harry Jr.) Quebedeaux and Lorey (Jim) Delap; one great grandson, Adam Quebedeaux; a brother, Leslie J. Ernst Jr. as well as a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. A caregiver from a young age, Rita opened her home to more than one family member during her extensive life. She was an avid animal lover and devoted her days to the number of dogs and cats she had as pets. She cared for any animal in need, including squirrels, ducks, roosters, and even a monkey for a night! Forever an energetic hostess, no one ever left Rita's home feeling hungry. In her spare time, she tended to her gardens which included fig, japonica and pecan trees, azaleas, daylilies, and altheas. The world has never known a more patient, generous, and loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and grandmother.
