Robert John Conrad

May 4, 1925 — August 15, 2011

Robert John Conrad (Bob), a devoted husband and father, passed away on August 15, 2011 at the age of 86. He was a well-known real estate attorney for Prudential Insurance Company and Adams and Reese Law Firm and a member of American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He was instrumental in the development and building of the Poydras Plaza and Hyatt Regency Hotel. He gave of himself to the city of New Orleans having served on many boards including director of the Downtown Development District, the Charity Hospital Board, the Regional Transit Authority, Fifth District Savings Bank Board of Directors, the Selective Service Board, the Mississippi River Bridge Authority, Goodwill Industry of Louisiana and President of Aurora County Club. He also faithfully served his Catholic parish as President of Saint Andrew the Apostle PTA and Saint Andrew the Apostle School Foundation. He received the Order of Saint Louis for his dedicated service to the Church. He also served the parish as a lector and as a religious education teacher. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Joel Knowles Conrad as well as his five children: the late Robert J. Conrad, Jr. (Lois), Jerry C. Conrad (Judy), Karen C. Eagan (Quinn), Kenneth T. Conrad (Martha), and Dr. Kevin M. Conrad (Marianne). He is also survived by his sister in law Elaine K. Hemard and his brother in law Thomas W. Shepard. Bob also has 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Judge Carl A. Conrad and Alice Fossier, his brother Carl A. Conrad, Jr. and his sister Jeanne C. Shepard. Bob was a member of the Greatest Generation having proudly served his country in World War II on the island of Guam in the United States Navy. He went to Louisiana State University where he was a member of the LSU Golden Band from Tigerland. He later graduated from Loyola Law School in 1950. His time spent in the Navy and the LSU band were two of his most treasured memories. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 10 AM at Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, 3101 Eton St. Algiers, LA followed by a Funeral Mass at 1 PM. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum, New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Robert J.
