Robert Day, Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the age of 102. Beloved husband of the late Helen Heider Day. Son of the late Frank E. Day, Sr. and Maria Teppa Day. Loving father of Janice Day Nungesser (Husband, the late Gary), Robert Day, Jr. (Wife, Elsie), Terry Day and the late Ronald D. Day. Grandfather of Stephen Fernandez (Wife, Julie), Stanton Fernandez (Wife, Sonia), Jai-Anne Nungesser Miller (Husband, Patrick), Troy M. Day, Tod Day (Wife, Anita), Travis Day, Terry F. Day (Wife, Mindy), Jeffery Day. Great Grandfather of Reed Fernandez, Collin Fernandez, Mallory Miller, George Miller, Braden Fernandez, Shelby Day, Sydney Day, Madelyn Day, Olivia Day, Drew Day and Logan Day. Robert is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Clarence Day, Frank E. Day, Jr., James R. Day, Millard W. Day, John M. Day and Willie W. Day. Robert was an active member of the Indivisible Friends Lodge 404 in Gretna, LA for 69 years. He was one of the oldest members in the state of Louisiana. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and retired from Kaiser Aluminum as a welder in Chalmette. He was born in Panama City, Panama; raised in Tela, Honduras and came to the United States legally when he was 21 years old with his parents He was a lifelong resident of Algiers until 2004 when he moved to Slidell, LA. Robert loved his family and was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice Compasses for their love and care given. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Vallette Street, Algiers, LA on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 9:30AM until 11:30AM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:30AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
