Robert Lewis

Robert Lewis was called home on Friday, November 17^th, 2023.  Mr. Lewis was born on September 30^th, 1934, in Mt. View, California to his late parents, Minnie Cardoza Landry, Charles Lewis and adopted father Herman Eugene Landry.  He was preceded in death by his wife Gail Gertrude Pittman Lewis of 61 years.  He is survived by his children, Robert Stephen Lewis, Julie Lewis Plunkett (Michael), Shawn David Lewis (Linda), Mary Elizabeth Lewis and Amy Lewis Morse (Frank).  He is also survived by his grandchildren Nicole Chauvin, Bryce Lewis (Caroline), Kevin Plunkett (Karen), Sarah Plunkett, Blaise Lewis, Lucas Morse, William Plunkett, Amelia Morse and by his great grandchildren, Beau Chauvin, Kelsi Chauvin and Carter Dampier. He graduated from Belle Chasse High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La.  He was an educator for over 30 years.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, restoring antiques and caring for his dachshunds (Minnie and Gracie).  He loved spending time with his late wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and close friends.  He was proud to serve his adopted home of Belle Chasse by educating and coaching the students of Plaquemines Parish.  His accomplishments were being a member of the Belle Chasse High School 1954 Baseball championship team; playing baseball for the Purple Demons; serving in the United States Army; being assistant coach on the Belle Chasse High School 1987 state champion softball team; he was a big supporter of female sports at Belle Chasse High School; the softball field was dedicated to and named “The Robert Lewis Field”.  He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he cleaned, repaired and repainted the metal fence surrounding the school and church.  In lieu of flowers, if you would like to pay tribute to Robert’s life the family requests donations in his name to Louisiana SPCA Plaquemines Animal Shelter or St. Vincent DePaul Society.  To view the livestream funeral of Mr. Robert, please log on to http://www.robertomusic.org/robert-lewis.  Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Road, Terrytown, Louisiana on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 10:30AM until 12:30PM.  A Funeral Mass will be held at the church on Wednesday at 12:30PM.  Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, Louisiana.  Family and friends may offer condolences at mothefunerals.com.
