Robert William Ziifle, age 99 years, was born into Eternal Life on Friday, May 3, 2012. He was the beloved husband of the late Ita Mae Allingham Ziifle, and father of Anne Kirsten Ziifle, Robert W. Ziifle, Jr., Timothy Christian Ziifle, Sr., John Allingham Ziifle and Kari Margaret Ziifle. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth C. Ziifle and Myra Ziifle Thalheim, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, William and Leonora Giboney Ziifle; sisters, Leonora Ziifle Geiger and Hilda Ziifle Jung and his brother, Harold R. Ziifle, Sr. He was a native of Gretna and lived his entire married life in Algiers, LA. He was a graduate of Tulane University with honors, in Chemical Engineering and worked for many years for New Orleans Public Service and retired as Assistant General Manager of transportation operations. He was chosen by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to serve on the National Defense Executive Reserve of the United States Interstate Commerce Commission in 1957 and was responsible for civilian and military emergency transportation for the eastern half of the United States.
He was a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society, the Gretna Historical Society, the German Heritage, Cultural and Genealogical Society and Trinity Lutheran Church of Algiers.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff and residents of Woldenburg Village for their many years of excellent care and loving concern for “Mr. Bob”, with special thanks to Kenya Williams, Sheila Brown, Cheryl Robinson and the St. Margaret’s Hospice nurses, Velma Torres and Jenny LeBlanc.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 620 Eliza Street in Algiers. Visitation will begin for 10 AM at the Church. Interment in St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Algiers. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Margaret’s Home Health and Hospice are preferred.
