Rogene “Jean” Edna Bihl Molaison, 83 & Merrill Thomas Molaison, 87 passed away a little less than 8 months apart. Jean passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, and Merrill passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 14, 2022. After raising their 5 children, Jean became a librarian and worked for the San Diego County Library system. Jean was always happy go lucky with a great sense of humor. She was always known for a good joke. Merrill worked for Solar Turbines/CAT for 35 years before retiring. In retirement, Merrill was a member of The United States Submarine Veterans Tullibee Base in Gautier MS, The Mississippi Wing of Commemorative Air Force in Madison, MS, The Metropolitan Club in Hattiesburg, MS., and Hattiesburg American Legion Post 24. Jean & Merrill thoroughly enjoyed attending a wide range of classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) on the campus of USM. When not attending meetings and classes, Jean enjoyed reading and watching/feeding the birds on her back porch. Merrill enjoyed reading, fixing things around the house, and passing along funny jokes to family and friends via email. While informing family and friends of Jean & Merrill's passing, the family was told numerous heartwarming stories and how much Merrill and Jean were loved, especially Jean’s rum cake. The family thanks those individuals for their kind words and looks forward to hearing many more of these accounts. Jean & Merrill are survived by their sons, Michael (Dawn) Molaison of Brainard, MN, David Molaison of Theodore, AL, & Andrew (Elaine) Molaison of Hattiesburg; their daughters, Lynda Molaison of Hattiesburg, & Patricia (John) Euper of Belle Chase, LA; six grandchildren, Michelle Miller, Jennifer Gunzelman, Scott, Sean, Sophie, Daniel Molaison, Tyler Euper, 6 great-grandchildren and one loving brother Raymond (Karen) Ernest Molaison of Gretna. Jean was born on January 22, 1938, in Buffalo, NY and is preceded in death by her parents, Rose Elizabeth Schoemick Bihl, Eugene James Bihl and a brother, James Eugene Bihl. Merrill was born on July 17, 1934, in New Orleans, La and is preceded in death by his parents, Nora Maria Lawrence and Harry John Molaison and his sister Mary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Tullibee Base Submarine Veterans C/O CP Green 2606 Shannon Rd. Ocean Springs, MS 39564-4220 OR OLLI 118 College Drive #5505, Hattiesburg MS 39406 OR a charity of your choice. A Memorial Visitation will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Vallette Street, Algiers, LA on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10AM until 11AM. A Memorial Mass will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11AM. Inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 500 De Armas Street, Algiers, LA following the memorial.
