Roland Paul Buras, Sr. (PaPa) was born on September 17, 1917 and entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2012 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Myrtis Hester Buras, his daughter Linda Buras Hyman, his sister Marie Taylor and his brother Roy Buras. Son of the late Rosalie Ban Buras and Joseph Buras. He is survived by his son Roland Paul Buras, Jr., 6 wonderful grandchildren, Stephanie (Pat), Elizabeth (Doug), Matthew (Gina), Kathryn (Paul), Karly (Paul) and Cody (Stephanie), 15 beautiful great-grandchildren along with many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was born and raised in Buras, LA and lived there until moving to Belle Chasse, LA in 2005. He was a World War II Army veteran attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in Europe from 1941 to 1945. He then worked for Gulf Oil Co. for the next 32 years before retiring at the age of 62 in 1979. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and friend who loved his family dearly and was always ready with a cheerful smile and his gentle personality. He was an avid farmer who loved to grow tomatoes and sell them from his roadside stand. He was known by many around Buras, not by Roland, but only as the “Tomato Man” who grew the best tomatoes around. His farming brought him much enjoyment and many new friends. He was a kind and generous man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed. His family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of the caring personnel who took care of Roland during his time at Riverbend Nursing Home.
