Roland James Witte

Roland James Witte, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and dearest friends.  Roland was born on July 29, 1947, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Louis Frank Witte and Gertrude Concordia Witte.  Roland is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sharon Trupiano Witte, and sons Derek Aaron Witte (Monique) and Darin Kurth Witte (Michelle).  He is also survived by his brother, Stanley Witte (Karen), and sisters, Linda Witte Henke (Phil) and Lora Witte Buck (Neal). He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Stephen Witte (Chris) and Ruth Witte Wagner (Doug). Roland is also survived by his brother-in-law, Mark LeGrand (Tonya) and his best friend of over fifty years, Stevan Nielsen (Patricia), as well as many loving nieces and nephews, family, and friends.

A special thanks to his niece, Lisa LeGrand Witter and her husband, Dwight Witter, Laura Ferrand Brignac, Nelree Williams and Compassus Hospice.

Roland graduated from Concordia Teachers College of Lincoln, Nebraska, in May 1969, and moved to Gretna, Louisiana, to teach and then become principal of Concordia Lutheran School in Gretna. He then worked as manager of LeGrand the Florist for over forty years, until his retirement in 2018.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service for Roland at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, located at 6336 Berkley Drive in Algiers, on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00am to 11:00, followed by the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name can be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, the National MS society, LASCPA, or the charity of your choice.
