Ronald E. Duver, Jr. 1944 - 2011 With loving support from his family, Ronnie died peacefully at his home on November 9, 2011 after a prolonged illness. He was 67 years of age, a native of New Orleans, LA, a resident of Plaquemines Parish for 55 years, 49 years in Belle Chasse. Preceded in death by his parents, Ronald E. “Ed” Duver and Lois Rihner Duver. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathleen Ballay Duver; son, Ryan Michael Duver; also beloved family members, sisters, Nancy D. Dickson (husband, Dana), Martha D. Conrad (husband, Ken); brother, Paul R. Duver (wife, Michaelyn) and in-laws, Darwyn J. Ballay (wife, Deborah), Suzanne B. Breaux (husband, Bill) and Brent B. Ballay (wife, Julie). Also survived by 13 nieces and nephews and numerous other family members, many friends, neighbors and co-workers. He was a graduate of Belle Chasse High School and attended Pearl River Jr. College; a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War. He retired from Plaquemines Parish Government Engineering Department after 33 years of service, followed by several years with Boomtown Casino. He was elected for two terms to the position of Plaquemines Parish Constable, serving those 12 years in the Belle Chasse area. His memberships included V.F.W. Post 6706, American Legion Post, Belle Chasse Lions Club and Fr. Peter Boerding K of C Council No. 6357, was co-founder and member of the “Best Ballers” Golf and Social Club, was previous O.L.P.H. Booth and Fair Chairman, longtime “Santa Claus” for O.L.P.H. School along with several local daycare centers and friends. He was past volunteer and supporter of many other school and parish groups and events, including local sports programs and politcal campaigns. Throughout the years, Ronnie has been affectionately known as “Punchy Boy”, “Big Duve” and “Large R”. As a young man, he grew up loving sports, later enjoyed fishing. He became an avid golfer, an L.S.U. Tiger and New York Yankee fan and also an enthusiast of historical and military memorabilia. Ronnie was a well-liked and cherished friend to many, one who loved family and friends above anyone else. He was a stranger to no one, and enjoyed laughing and sharing stories with everyone. While many may mourn his passing with heavy hearts, he leaves those hearts full with the warm, loving memories of a lifetime spent surrounded with friendship and love. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse on Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 9 AM to 11 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow.
