Roselie "Slavkia" Franicevich Callais

December 20, 1919 — September 23, 2012

On December 20, 1919 God blessed Olivia “Eva” Barraco and Joseph Franicevich with the birth of a beautiful daughter named Roselie “Slavkia” Franicevich. On September 23, 2012, at 10:30 AM in her own time and on her own terms she spread her wings and took flight home into eternal rest at the age of 92. She was greeted by those whom preceded her in death, parents Olivia and Joseph Franicevich, husband Golty J Callais, Son Jack Anthony Callais, Brothers Matthew and Joseph Franicevich, and Sister Josephine “Josie” Sercovich. Josie and Slavkia had more in common than most sisters. They were both born in 1919 and both departed this world and entered their heavenly home in 2012. Slavkia was born in New Orleans, La and was a native of Orstrica, LA. At the age of 34, she moved to Buras, LA so her children would no longer have to ride a crew boat to school. In 1969, after Hurricane Camille, she became a resident ofBelle Chasse, LA, but her heart was always in Orstrica. She is survived by her children Joseph “Chubby” Callais (Shelia), Martha Sue Cook (Paul Lee), James “Bimbo” Callais (Loreen), and Mona Boutwell (Donnie), sister Mary Delancey, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great - great -grandchildren. She will be remembered for her open heart and open doors by many, but especially by her grandchildren Michael Callais, Michelle Hendrix, Goltie Cook, Paul “Pupsie” Cook, James M. Callais, Shannon Callais, Shalom Cook, Joshua Cook, Dominick Valenti, Shane Williams, Devin Boutwell, Dylan Boutwell, and Carl Callais. She always had a special place in her heart for family and friends, and took many in to live with her and her family, but her niece Barbara Sercovich Kennair held a very special place in her heart. Barbara was more than a niece; she loved Barbara as a daughter and a reassured friend. The Callais family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the workers and staff at Riverbend Nursing Facility for their care and continued support. Relatives, friends and Riverbend staff and workers are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 6PM until 10PM. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 9AM until 1PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Highway 23, Belle Chasse, LA on Wednesday at 1:30PM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
