Russell Floyd Haas, of Gretna, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22 at Brookdale Memory Care in Mandeville. Russell was born on July 23,1937; was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Annette V. Haas, his brother John H. Haas, Jr., his sister Dolores H. Gonzales (Whitney) and Matthew Haas (grandson). Russell is survived by his siblings, Doris Lowe, Alvin Haas (Verline), Joan Folse, Elaine Eckel; his wife of 44 years, Juanita Haydel Haas; his sons Mark (Torrie), Joel, Dr. John Russell (Emma) and step-son, Kirk T. Gautreau. Jr., (Canela). He is the proud grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Rachael H. Rayes, Henry, Olivia, and Phillip Haas; 5 step grandchildren, Kirk T., III, Luke, Kassia, Jakob and Kaliope Gautreau; and 2 great grandchildren, Wyatt and Sawyer Rayes. Russell graduated from Gretna High School; attended Loyola University where he earned a Bachelors’ degree in Commercial Sciences, majoring in Accounting. He served in the US Coast Guard reserves for 6 years. He had a 30 history in the banking industry serving as Chairman, President and Founder of Investors Bank & Trust and President and Director of Guaranty Bank and Trust. As a member of the Westbank Rotary Club, he was the recipient of the “Westbank Citizen of the Year” award; as a member of the Westbank Chamber of Commerce, he received the “John W. Stevens, Jr.” award. He served as President and member of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Association of Banks and Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Westbank Economic Development Coalition. He was also a member of the Harvey Canal Industrial Association, the American Institute of Banking, member of the Westbank Bridge and Transportation Committee, Chairman of the Boy Scouts Steering Committee and numerous other civic organizations. Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at St. Anthony Church, 924 Monroe Street in Gretna on Monday, July 29, 2024 from10:00am until the Funeral Mass at noon. He will be interred at McDonough Cemetery in Gretna. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Association.
