Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Mensing Frederickson
New Orleans, La- Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Mensing Frederickson passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 to be with her Father in heaven, released from the constraints of an illness, which beset her the last several years.
Ruth was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 13, 1925. Her parents, Fred O. and Erna A. Mensing, and brother, John F. Mensing, predeceased her. She lived most of her life in New Orleans, LA with her late husband, Fred S. Frederickson, Jr., and family. She is survived by her three sons, John F. and Robert M. Frederickson, and Fred S. Frederickson III, husband of her daughter in law, Deborah R. Frederickson, and their two children, Ruth’s grandchildren, Jessica L. and Eric S. Frederickson.
Ruth attended nursing school, became a registered nurse, received her B.S. degree from Marquette University, and worked on her Masters in Nursing Education. She became a commissioned Officer in the U.S. Navy and served as a Navy Nurse and later married her husband in 1951. After her first child was born, she resigned her commission to raise her family as a devoted wife and mother. She was deeply involved in many church, school and scouting activities for her family. Ruth later returned to nursing and quickly rose to be head nurse of the labor and delivery unit for 13 years at the former Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, and joined her husband in retirement in 1985, as grandparents.
Ruth was a very kind, giving, and loving person who had many friends in addition to her family. Her faith in God was strong. The family wishes to express its gratitude for the ministry of Pastor Mark Hayman, and for the devoted care and concern provided by her caregivers, Jean Morton, Stephanie Brazile, Sandra Duncan, Barbara Bailey, and Margerine Charles of Simoneaux’s Medical Services, along with the dedicated caring staff of Our Lady of Wisdom.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held at 2 PM on Monday, May 9, 2011 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 6336 Berkley Drive, New Orleans, LA 70131.
