Ruth Amelia Marks Nungesser passed away on September 3, 2012 at the age of 79 years due to kidney failure.The beloved wife for almost 50 years of the late William Aicklen Nungesser. Mother of Nancy A. Nungesser, William H. Nungesser, Eric H. Nungesser (wife Carole) and Heidi N. Landry (husband Marlon). Grandmother of Matthew, Brett and Grace Nungesser; Alexander and Olivia Landry. Sister of Alvin Victor Marks, the late Robert J. Marks and the late William J. Marks. Daughter of the late Alvin W. Marks and Ruth Prilleux Marks LeCourt. Also survived by beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives. An uptown native who graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, Ruth lived in Algiers for over forty years and resided in Belle Chasse for the remainder of her life. She also had a home in Diamondhead, Mississippi until Hurricane Katrina.
Ruth made her Algiers home on Kabel Drive a gathering place for the neighborhood children. They were welcome to play in the “real snow” on her front lawn at Christmas and to swim in her pool every day each summer. Before her marriage, Ruth worked for the Times-Picayune. She then served in a variety of positions in family businesses including Algiers Canning and Sales Company, Gem o’ the Ocean brand and General Marine Catering Company. Although family was most important to her life, Ruth was always active in charities, politics, and the community. She was a volunteer for many organizations including Jo Ellen Smith Hospital, F. Edward Herbert Medical Center and The March of Dimes. She fought for good government in Louisiana and volunteered for numerous political campaigns including President Ronald Reagan and Governor Dave Treen. She was elected to the Republican Executive Committee and served as a delegate to both national and state Republican Conventions. A charter member of the Republican Women of Louisiana, Ruth was also a founder and past-president of the Algiers Republican Women Club. Ruth was a talented artist, an avid bird watcher, a great cook and a devoted grandmother. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 9 AM to 1 PM.
