Salvadore “Sammy” Marchese, Jr. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Beloved husband of Nola Bernard Marchese for 63 years. Loving father of Pamela M. Philastre (Don), Melissa “Missy” Marchese-Smith, Salvadore “Sammy” Marchese, III and Meeka M. Cheramie (Troy). Grandfather of Courtney Canales, RN (David), Jeffrey Philastre (Shannon, R.N.), Jason Smith (Michelle), Ethan Cheramie, Eli Cheramie, Melanie P. Harvey (Paul), David Philastre and Ashlie Meers (Rob). Great grandfather of Anabella Canales, Alexander Canales, Sarah Harvey and Ila Grace Meers. Brother of Rosary “Sister” Marchese, Agnes “Peachy” Marchese, John L. Marchese (Sylvia), Margaret Laughlin (Donald) and the late Anthony “Don” Marchese, Frank “Bing” Marchese, Alvin Marchese and John R. Marchese. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Son of the late Margaret Panepinto Marchese and Salvadore “Sam” Marchese, Sr. Age 87 years. A native and lifelong resident of Gretna, LA. Mr. Marchese was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre. He retired as Bank Vice President/Manager with First National Bank of Jefferson and served Gretna as councilman and Mayor Pro Tempore for many years. He was also a faithful parishioner at St. Joseph Church, Gretna where he served as an usher and volunteered for many of the parish functions.
Relatives and friends of the family, also all Gretna Council members, officials, members of the Gretna Police Dept., David Crocket Vol. Fire Dept., the West Jefferson Italian-American Association, Rotary Club of Westwego, VFW Post 3121 and the Grela Carnival Club are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 616 6th St., Gretna, LA on Tuesday April 2, 2013 at 1 PM. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Parlors will be open at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 6 PM until 10 PM and again Tuesday from 8 AM until 12:30 PM.
