Sandra Jeanne Coulon Hernandez returned to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 8, at 2:18 A.M. after a courageous 18 month battle with liver cancer and other medical problems. She began her journey at home, peacefully, in her sleep, surrounded by her beloved husband of 47 years, Ronald John Hernandez, her beloved sons, Garth, and his wife, Stasia, and Gareth Sr., and his wife, Tara, as well as their four grandsons Brady, Tyler, Gareth Jr. and Grayson. Sandy was born on March 1, 1942, to Grace Marie Treadaway Coulon and Dewey Herbert Coulon. She lived in Harvey, LA until 1970 when she and her husband, whom she married on May 9, 1964, moved to Marrero and raised their family. Sandy was the grandmother of Brady, Tyler, Gareth Jr. and Grayson, and was proud to be known as “Gram” or “Gam”. Prior to her marriage, Sandy worked for South Central Bell with her dear friend, Helen Mae Leblanc Palermo, also affectionately known as “Doppie” to Garth and Gareth. Sandy retired in 1964 to raise her family. Sandy graduated from Immaculata High School in 1960 with her lifelong dear friend, Loretta Ledet Sievers. Sandy was preceded in death by her infant son, Garin Dane Hernandez, and her parents. Sandy is survived by her husband, Ronald, her two sons, Garth Damien Hernandez, his wife, Stasia LaCour Hernandez, their two sons, Brady Paul Hernandez and Tyler Dane Hernandez, of Harvey, LA and Gareth Damon Hernandez, Sr., his wife, Tara Dragon Hernandez, their two sons Gareth Damon Hernandez, Jr. and Grayson Dragon Hernandez of Mandeville, LA; her sister, Judy Arleen Celino, her husband, Gerald Joseph Celino, their two sons, Gregg William Celino, his wife, Carole Nossent-Celino, of Forth Worth, TX and their son, Dillon Wayne Celino, of Tulsa, OK and Scott Michael Celino, his wife, Sheila Dufrene Celino, and their daughter, Lauren Elise Celino, of Harvey, LA; her brother Dennis Ray Coulon, his wife, Michele Bienvenu Coulon, and their son, Christopher Michael Coulon, of Gretna, LA Sandy's family wishes to thank the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, especially Dawn and Sandy’s nurse, Jennifer, for their compassionate care and friendship to the family.
