Shelton Paul Toups

Shelton Paul Toups, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on Octoberj 28, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he spent his formative years and nurtured a deep love for his community.

A proud graduate of Fortier High School, class of 1957, Shelton served his country with honor in the Navy Sea-Bees. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career in shoe sales, dedicating 30 years to Thom McCann Shoe Store. His work not only showcased his commitment to service, but also allowed him to create lasting relationships with customers who appreciated his expertise and genuine care.

Shelton was known for his generous spirit and his love for children. He remarkably donated over 800 birdhouses to Children's Hospital in New Orleans, embodying his desire to bring joy and comfort to those in need. His kindness and community involvement left a lasting impact on many lives.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joycelyn F. Toups, with whom he shared a cherished 64 years of marriage. Shelton was a proud father to his children, Scott and Todd. He delighted in being a grandfather to Dustin, Adam, and Cameron Toups, and took immense joy in being a great-grandfather to Willow McFall.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mae LeBlanc and Guy Toups, and his brother Stanley Toups (Beverly).

A viewing will be held on December 27, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Harvey - Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC, located at 2100 Westbank Expy in Harvey, Louisiana. Following the viewing, a Mass will be celebrated from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. Shelton will then be laid to rest at St. Vincent De Paul Cemetery No 1 in New Orleans, where the burial will take place at 12:30 PM.

Shelton's legacy of love, generosity, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
